A collection of books for my future classroom

"The wonderful thing you will be" By: Eimily Winfield Martin

The Wonderful Things You Will Be - Emily Winfield Martin

This is a very inspirational book to follow your dreams. Would be a great book for the first day of school. students could share with the the class who they are and who they want to be. Because the text rhymes this book could further be used in teaching rhyming.

"How I Became a Pirate" By: Melinda Long and David Shannon

How I Became a Pirate - Melinda Long, David Shannon

A story of a boy and his crazy adventure on a ship full as pirates. They set off to bury the treasure but as the journey continues the little boy begins to realize the importance of his family. I would use this book to teach sequence of events. Students can determine the order of events and the mood of the main character during these events. I could also use this book to show plot, problems and solutions in text.

Math Curse By: Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith

Math Curse - Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith

This book would be great for higher level grades. Teaching using a thematic unit, integrating math and literature. After making predictions and reading book as class, students could observe their own environment and make their own word problems and then solve them. Students would be building skills in predicting, writing, creativity, problem solving, and word problems.

After researching I found a lesson plan similar to what I described above:

Llama Llama Time to Share By: Anna Dedney

Llama Llama Time to Share - Anna Dewdney

This book would be great for a social skills lesson on sharing and making new friends. Great for beginning of school year.In the story Llama meets Gnu girl, he has to learn to share with Gnu girl and to find something to play together that meets both of their different interests.

The text also rhymes throughout the story, this book could be used to reinforce different word families.
